September 15th - Rio Genal

We took a picnic (with the mother-in-law) to sit by the river for a couple of hours at 6pm. The evening sunlight was wonderful, the temperature had dropped to the lower 20's and the air was perfectly still. Bird activity increased around 7pm with Chiffchaff (10), Willow Warbler (2), Spotted Flycatcher (1) being the main migrants whilst many Blue Tits, Goldfinches, Serins, Greenfinches were the main resident sightings coming to bathe.

The two local Cetti's Warblers were very vocal answering each others calls. At around 7pm the nearest one has a habit of flying across the river to feed just a few feet from where we sit. It spends about 15-20 minutes feeding in the undergrowth then it jumps up onto a branch, issues a loud song and then flies back across the river. I filmed it last time on the ground but I am aiming to get it singing on film, watch this space.
