APRIL 6TH 2013 - RIO GUADIARO MORNING WALK

At last the sun came out and stayed out!!!  It has been weeks since we last had some good weather, We had a few hours to spare so Dawn and I took a walk along our favourite track at Estacion Cortes next to the Rio Guadiaro. The river was way above its normal levels and all of the shingle bars were submerged so there were no Wagtails or Waders were on show.

Everywhere was lush and green, many wildflowers were in flower and we found a few spikes of Mirror Orchid.
Mirror Orchid

Rio Guadiaro - no shingle banks in sight

Narcissi

A filed of Daisies - some of them are escaping under the gate!!!

Birds seen included: Woodchat Shrike, Blackcap, Sardinian Warbler, Serin, Cetti's Warbler, Cirl Bunting, Booted Eagle, Short-toed Eagle and a large flock of Black Kites (60+) were seen circling over the far hills.
