AUSTRALIA - HOLIDAY/RECCE TOUR - DAY 18 - OCT 14TH - CAIRNS

MOSSMAN GORGE - PORT DOUGLAS

Dawn and I spent the whole day being tourists, we drove up to Mossman and visited the Gorge, its not much of a gorge more like a steep river valley with some pretty cascades and some excellent forest walks. Unfortunately it turned out to be the hottest day of our holiday so far, reaching 34C and rhe humidity in the forest was quite high. So we never made it to all the trails, but really enjoyed the ones we did.

THE BEACH AT PORT DOUGLAS

typical cove along the North Queensland Coastline - devoid of people - full of crocs!
We ate our picnic lunch in the shade of a fig tree before driving into Port Douglas to spend the rest of the afternoon in the town or on the beach. I couldn't believe how warm the sea was, it was like taking a bath, fantastic.
this little mantis was crawling up my leg

We spent the evening on the veranda with Roly and Helen planning our birding day out for tomorrow. WATCH THIS SPACE!
