DAY 6 - 10 DAYS IN ANDALUCIA - RONDA

Not much of a birding day today because we went to Ronda to do the 'tourist' section of the tour. We had unbroken sunshine all day and it was quite warm when sheltered from the wind, but generally it was very cold. We set off at 9am and drove to Ronda stopping twice on the way to look for some montane species. Just beyond Atajate we found Blue Rock Thrush, Black Redstart, Red-legged Partridge, Black Wheatear and afew Linnets.

Next we stopped at the Encinas Borrachas trail about 10km south of Ronda. It was very windy and only 4C! But we were soon enjoying watching Thekla Lark at close quarters, Corn buntings, Stonechats, Linnets and a Southern Grey Shrike.

In Ronda we saw Crag Martins and lots of Red-billed Chough but we didn't really look at birds. A short excursion along the Burgos road found us searching for Golden Eagle and Ring Ouzel but we only found incredibly beautiful scenery and a few Griffon Vultures.

Early evening back in Gaucin we took a walk up to the castillo (but it was closed) and then to the Camino Gibraltar. Birds logged during this time included: Blackcap, Black Redstart, House martin, Sparrowhawk, Great Spotted Woodpecker and more Griffon Vultures.
